Mormon Mill

In 1851, a Mormon colony took root along Hamilton Creek in what is now Burnet County, Texas, founding the settlement that would come to be called Mormon Mill. The community also appeared on maps and in records under the names Mormon Mills, Mormon Mill Colony, and Mormon Mill Historical Site. Its existence proved brief — by 1853 the population had relocated to another county, leaving nothing standing behind.

Today the site sits along Mormon Mills Road, roughly five miles north of Marble Falls and ten miles south of Burnet. No buildings survive from the original colony. The location was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1936 (Marker No. 9733), so a historical marker is the realistic centerpiece of any visit. Expect a roadside stop rather than an immersive ruins experience — the draw here is the historical marker and the quiet creek setting, not standing structures.
