About Midas

Midas is an unincorporated community in Elko County, Nevada, with a history rooted in gold mining. Unlike many ghost towns, it has never been fully abandoned, though its population has swung dramatically across the decades. Together with Jarbidge, Midas earned a reputation as one of the most significant gold mining communities in Elko County during the twentieth century.

Visitors today find a small, quiet settlement that retains a genuine sense of its past. Because the town was never completely deserted, it exists in an unusual in-between state — part living remnant, part historic relic — making it an interesting stop for those drawn to Nevada's mining heritage.
