Grey Reef on the North Platte River below Grey Reef Dam near Casper is one of Wyoming's most celebrated tailwater trout fisheries, holding extraordinary numbers of large brown and rainbow trout. The consistent cold water releases from the dam create ideal year-round conditions, and fish averaging 16-20 inches are common. Nymphing with midge and baetis patterns is most productive, with excellent dry fly fishing during summer hatches.
