Upper Kiamichi River Wilderness

Upper Kiamichi River Wilderness is a 10,799-acre federally protected Wilderness Area in Oklahoma, managed by the Forest Service. The area preserves primitive backcountry terrain where foot travel and human-powered recreation are the only options—no roads, motors, or mechanized equipment are permitted.

The wilderness offers hiking and backpacking for visitors seeking solitude and untrammeled forest experience. Access is on foot only, and all travel must follow Leave No Trace principles: pack out what you pack in, camp below timberline on durable surfaces, and avoid established campsites when possible to minimize impact. This is genuine backcountry, not a day-use park.

Visit during mild-to-warm months when weather is most stable and water reliable. Spring and fall offer comfortable temperatures; summer can be humid and hot. Winter travel is possible but conditions can be unpredictable.
