Upper Bald River Wilderness

Upper Bald River Wilderness is a 9,038-acre federally protected Wilderness Area in Tennessee, managed by the Forest Service. It offers backcountry hiking and backpacking in a primitive, non-motorized landscape where solitude and self-reliance are central to the experience.

The wilderness prohibits roads, motors, and mechanized travel of any kind. Visitors must travel on foot or horseback and practice Leave No Trace principles to preserve the area's wild character. Access is trailhead-based, and the season runs roughly May through October, with summer offering the most reliable conditions. Spring and fall are accessible but can bring unpredictable weather; winter snow and ice make travel hazardous.
