Dinkey Lakes Wilderness

Dinkey Lakes Wilderness is a 30,863-acre federally protected backcountry area in California managed by the Forest Service. It's a primitive, non-motorized landscape where hiking and backpacking are the primary ways to travel and explore—no roads, motors, or mechanized travel are permitted. The wilderness offers genuine solitude and untrammeled backcountry experience for those willing to travel on foot.

Visitors should expect to follow strict Leave No Trace principles and understand that this is a true wilderness designation, not a developed recreation area. Access requires foot travel from trailheads outside the wilderness boundary. The high-elevation terrain means seasonal accessibility is limited; snow closes the area during winter months, and late spring and early fall can still bring unpredictable weather. Summer and early fall are the primary visiting seasons, when trails are typically snow-free and weather is most stable.
