Hogs Back is a climbing area on Bureau of Land Management land in the Kemmerer Field Office in Wyoming, about 13 miles from the town of Kemmerer. The land is managed by the BLM, and the area sits at a higher elevation than the nearby Kemmerer weather station, so temperatures here run a little cooler than the station's typical averages. The climbing at Hogs Back is a mix of styles, with 10 routes spread across sport, trad and mixed climbing. The YDS grades range from 5.6 to 5.10c, with the median at 5.7. Among the named routes are "Beer for My Horses" (5.6, sport) and "Touch, Peel and Stand" (5.10c, mixed), both of which were first ascended by Ty Vineyard. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical July highs reach about 83°F with lows near 43°F, based on averages from the Kemmerer station. Winter is cold, with January highs around 31°F and lows near 2°F. The Emigrant Trail is about 1.5 miles away, and the Cutthroat Trail is about 5 miles off.
