Cathedral Buttress is a climbing area in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, managed by the National Park Service. It sits among a cluster of climbing and hiking destinations, with Omega Buttress about half a mile away and Death Canyon under a mile off. The climbing here is alpine, and the routes run from about 5.6 up to 5.12d. The hardest of them, Freedom Fighter, was first climbed by Greg Collins, Sue Miller and Brendan O'niell. The Snaz, at 5.10a, was among the first routes on the buttress, done by Yvon Chouinard and Mort Hempel in 1964. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Moose put July highs around 82°F with lows near 44°F, and the station sits roughly 1,450 feet below the buttress, so temperatures on the rock run cooler. The Death Canyon Trail and Valley Trail are both about a mile away. For an overnight base, Teton Canyon campground is about 8 miles off.
