Devil's Basin is a hard hike in Wyoming's Shoshone National Forest, within the Wind River Ranger District. The trail is about 10 miles long and is an out-and-back, with the high point at 9,566 feet and the low point at 7,959 feet. The total elevation gain is 3,425 feet, and the steepest stretch comes within the first 0.12 miles, with a grade of about 32 percent. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is natural-surfaced. Bikes and horses are both allowed. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Darwin run to highs around 72°F in July and 71°F in August, with lows in the mid-30s. That station sits about 1,376 feet lower than the high point, so temperatures on the basin run cooler. The hike is open from May 1 to October 31, and the trip is estimated to take about five hours. Beauty Park and Little Devil's Basin are both within about 4 miles. Green Creek Camping Area and the Sheridan - Two Ocean - Togwotee CDT Alternate are a little farther out.
