Chiwawa River Road is an easy cross-country skiing route in Washington's Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, within the Wenatchee River Ranger District. It is a short out-and-back, about 1.4 miles long, with a low point of 2,703 feet and a high of 2,770 feet. The climb is gentle, with an elevation gain of about 49 feet one way, and the steepest stretch comes at about 0.47 miles in, with a grade of 8%. The road sits on Forest Service land. Phelps Creek Campground is about half a mile away, and Buck Creek Trail #1513 is about 0.7 miles off. Alpine Meadows and the Phelps Creek hike are each roughly 1.3 miles from the route. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from the Holden Village weather station, about 10 miles away, put July and August highs around 76°F with lows in the mid-40s and only about six wet days a month. Winter is cold, with January highs near 28°F and lows around 17°F. Nearby options include the Carne Mountain Trail #1508 about 1.5 miles away, the Suiattle River for canoeing about 9.6 miles away, and Nineteenmile Campground about 3.2 miles away.
