About Chinook Scenic Byway

Chinook Scenic Byway is a 91.6-mile drive in Washington that carries three designations: All-American Road, National Forest Scenic Byway and Washington State Scenic Byway. Part of the route crosses national forest land, and it links the towns of Enumclaw, Greenwater, Cliffdell and Nile, which give natural places to break up the trip. For comfortable driving, summer is the pick. At a nearby weather station in Buckley, at about 685 feet, typical July and August highs reach 77°F with only around seven wet days a month, compared with 19 wet days in midwinter. Higher stretches of the byway may run cooler than these low-elevation averages. The byway makes an easy base for other outings, with several within a short distance of the road. Palisades Trail and Silver Springs Campground both sit about 0.1 mile from the route. The Naches River is close by for paddling, and the American River is under a mile away.
