Winter Block is a climbing area in Washington's Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, within the Snoqualmie Ranger District and the Middle Fork Snoqualmie Natural Resources Conservation Area. The land is managed by the State Department of Natural Resources, and the area sits about 0.1 mile from the Shangri-La and Mile High Club Boulders climbing areas. The climbing here leans toward sport routes, with 15 of the 18 listed routes in that style and three in trad. The YDS grades run from 5.8 to 5.12b, with the median around 5.10+. Becky's Bulge at 5.12b is the hardest of the named routes, and Tweedledum is the easiest at 5.8. Heebie-Jeebies and Sun Rise Forever are also among the more popular picks. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the Cedar Lake weather station, about 6.6 miles away, show July and August highs near 70°F, with fewer wet days than the rest of the year. That station sits roughly 850 feet lower than the area, so temperatures at Winter Block run cooler. The Climbing Access Loop Trail starts about 0.3 mile away, and the Neverland Climbing Area Trail is about 0.6 mile off. Tinkham Campground, about 3.2 miles away, and the Cedar River, about 4.9 miles away, round out the options for overnight stays and paddling.
