Kettle Valley (Curlew) is a climbing area in northeastern Washington, on Bureau of Land Management land within the Spokane Border Field Office. It sits among a cluster of climbing spots, with The Bookstore, Riverside and Tonata Creek Wall all within a mile. The area has 11 routes, with grades ranging from 5.9 to 5.11b. Most are trad or mixed, and the hardest is Piper At The Gates Of Dawn at 5.11b. Another Roadside Attraction is the only sport route, at 5.11a. Summer is the most comfortable time to climb. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Republic show July and August highs around 84°F with only four or five wet days a month, while winter brings highs near 30°F and regular snow days. The Bookstore and Riverside are the closest climbing areas, and Shangri La is about 0.6 miles away. For a change of pace, the Ferry County Rail Trail is roughly 7.7 miles off.
