About Dinosaur Diamond Prehistoric Highway
Dinosaur Diamond Prehistoric Highway is a 321.7-mile National Scenic Byway in Utah that also holds designation as a Utah State Scenic Byway. The route links a long string of small communities and larger towns, so there is never a shortage of places to stop along the way. The drive passes through Cisco and Dewey, then continues through Crescent Junction and Green River. From there it heads on through Wellington, Price and Helper before reaching Duchesne, Myton and Roosevelt. Fort Duchesne, Vernal, Naples and Jensen come later on the route. Price and Vernal are among the larger stops, which makes them natural places to break up a trip of this length. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to make the drive. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show highs around 70°F in May and 76°F in September, while winter highs stay near 40°F. Several stops sit right beside the byway, within about a tenth of a mile. Grandstaff Campground and the Grandstaff Canyon Trail are two of them, along with the Dewey Bridge Group Sites and the Courthouse Wash Panel. The Price River, a paddling spot, lies just under a mile from the route.
