Rest Area is a climbing area in Utah's Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, within the Pleasant Grove Ranger District, which the Forest Service manages. It sits about 0.1 mile from the Scenic Turnout and the Ed and Terry Wall climbing areas and about 0.2 mile from the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. The place is a compact cluster of rock and route options, with several climbing areas and hiking trails within a short distance of one another. The climbing here ranges from about 5.6 to 5.12a, with sport and trad styles. Nine routes are listed, including Red Spire (5.6, sport), Swing Club (5.12a, sport) and Kick Ass (5.10c, trad). The grades are typical for the area, and the routes are close enough to one another to make it easy to plan a day that mixes several. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Provo run from highs around 76°F in May to about 83°F in September, while July averages about 95°F and winter brings frequent snow days. That station sits about 1,000 feet lower than the area, so temperatures here run cooler.
