The Hole is a climbing area in the Sanpete Ranger District of Manti-La Sal National Forest in Utah, about 5 miles from the town of Moroni. It sits among several other climbing spots, including Ammo Dump Wall, Cobble Roof and Box Canyon, all within a tenth of a mile, and the Box Canyon Trail, which makes it easy to pair a climb with a walk. The climbing here is all sport, and the routes run from about 5.12a up to 5.13d. The hardest is Freedom, a 5.13d first ascended by zeb engberg, and the easiest is Gurgle, a 5.12a first ascended by Matt Nielson. Black Days and Stun Line are both 5.13b, and Rupture is 5.13c. For timing, late spring and early fall are the most comfortable. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Moroni show May highs around 71°F and September highs around 79°F, while July averages about 89°F and January highs sit near 38°F. That station sits roughly 1,000 feet lower than the climbing area, so temperatures at The Hole run cooler.
