Black and Tan is a climbing area in southern Utah, on Bureau of Land Management land within the St. George Field Office. It sits among a cluster of climbing spots, with Kelly's Rock just 0.1 mile away and The Solstice about a mile off. The area is managed by the BLM, and its routes run the gamut from sport climbs in the 5.6 range up to a 5.14b. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show April highs around 76°F and October highs around 78°F, while July averages climb to about 101°F. That station sits roughly 800 feet lower than the area, so temperatures here run cooler. The climbing here is almost all sport, with 34 sport routes and one trad route among the 35 listed. The hardest is Breakin' the Law at 5.14b, and the easiest is Learning Curve at 5.6. Other routes include Beauty Pageant (5.9) and House of Cards (5.12a).
