The Alley is a sport climbing area on Bureau of Land Management land in the St. George Field Office of southern Utah. It sits among a cluster of other climbing areas, with The Abyss, The Alcove and The Blank Cave all about 0.1 mile away, and Hop Garden just as close. The climbing here is all sport, with 17 routes spread across a range from 5.8 to 5.13b. The median grade is 5.11a, and the hardest route is Sister Chromatid at 5.13b. Among the named routes are Alley Cat at 5.8, Family Affair at 5.10b and Three Pump Chump at 5.12a. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to climb. Typical averages from a nearby weather station run from highs around 65°F in April to 71°F in October, while July highs average about 92°F. That station sits roughly 690 feet lower than the climbing area, so temperatures at the crag run a little cooler. For a change from the rock, Hell Hole Trail is about a mile away, and Bullwinkle Trail and Rock House Trail are each roughly 2.8 miles off.
