Flat Top is a hard hike in Utah's Fishlake National Forest, within the Richfield Ranger District. The trail is an out-and-back that climbs from about 7,300 feet to about 9,167 feet, a total gain of 1,842 feet over a route of about 21.7 miles. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is natural-surfaced and open year-round. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Salina, which sits about 1,600 feet lower, show July highs around 80°F with lows near 53°F. That station's figures are not directly comparable to the higher trail, so expect cooler temperatures on the summit. The trail is close to several other routes and camps. Niotche Ridge Road and the Great Western Trail - Utah both lie about 0.6 miles away, and the Niotch - Gates mountain biking area is at a similar distance. Twin Ponds Cua Dispersed campground is about a mile off.
