Balsam Campground sits in Hobble Creek Canyon within the Spanish Fork Ranger District of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest in Utah, about 8 miles from the town of Patrick Place. The Forest Service manages the land, and the site is set among fir, maple and cottonwood trees, with concrete pads under the tables. Hobble Creek runs through the campground, and the forest offers partial shade, fall color and some privacy between campsites. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Deer Creek Dam show July highs around 86°F with lows near 49°F, while September cools to about 75°F by day and 40°F at night. That station sits roughly 650 feet lower than the campground, so temperatures here run a little cooler. The Wardsworth Canyon and Dry Canyon hikes both start within a mile of the campground. The Hobble Creek Canyon climbing area is about 1.2 miles away, and the Right Fork Hobble Creek paddling route is about 2.6 miles off.
