West Lake is a moderate out-and-back hike in Oregon's Umpqua National Forest, on the Diamond Lake Ranger District. The trail is about 5.4 miles long and rises about 348 feet one way, with the total climb on the round trip coming to roughly 753 feet. The high point is about 5,449 feet, and the steepest stretch lies around the 1.9-mile mark, with a grade of about 13 percent. The trail is natural-surface and bikes are allowed. It is not accessible. The Forest Service manages the land, and the route is open year-round. The trip takes about two hours. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station run to highs near 79°F in July and August, with only a few wet days a month. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the higher ground run cooler. Rodley Butte starts just 0.1 mile away, and Thielsen View Campground is about 1.3 miles off. The Dellenback Bike Path and North Crater are both roughly 1.8 miles away.
