Thorp Creek Trail is an expert-level out-and-back hike in Oregon's Eagle Cap Wilderness, part of the Eagle Cap Ranger District of the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail runs about 6.7 miles round trip, with a one-way climb of 2,140 feet. The route starts at about 5,400 feet and reaches a high point of 7,544 feet, with the steepest stretch at about 2.5 miles in, where the grade reaches 52%. The trail is a serious climb, and the total round-trip gain is about 4,562 feet. Plan for a full day on foot, with plenty of elevation to cover. Nearby, Ice Lake Trail and Matterhorn Trail are both within about 2 miles. The Wallowa Mountains climbing area is about 2 miles away, and Shady Campground offers camping about 5 miles off.
