Pika-Fir is an easy out-and-back hike in the Detroit Ranger District of the Willamette National Forest in Oregon, about 1.8 miles long with a total climb of 389 feet. It runs between two points roughly 180 feet apart in elevation, with the trail's high point at 4,048 feet and its low point at 3,876 feet. The trailhead is named Pika / Fir Lake Trailhead, and it sits on natural surface. The most comfortable time to visit is midsummer. Typical averages from the nearby Santiam Junction weather station show July and August highs around 76°F with lows near 42°F. That station sits a few hundred feet below the trail, so temperatures on the route run slightly cooler. The hike stays open from June 1 through October 31, and the trip takes about an hour. The trail is open to bikes, and the surrounding area offers more to explore. Big Meadows Loop is half a mile away, Turpentine Loop is under a mile off, and the North Santiam River is about 1.2 miles away for paddling. Big Pool Campground, about 1.5 miles out, is a place to stay.
