Cougar Creek is a short, easy hike in the North Umpqua Ranger District of Oregon's Umpqua National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is about a mile long and rises roughly 270 feet from its starting point, with the high point at about 2,655 feet. The climb is front-loaded, with the steepest stretch at the beginning, and the route is an out-and-back. The most comfortable months for a visit are typically June through September, when typical averages from the nearby Toketee Falls weather station show highs in the mid-70s to mid-80s and only a few wet days a month. Winter is much wetter and cooler, with highs in the low 40s and snow on a few days a month from December through March. The trail is open from May 1 through October 31, and the trip takes about half an hour. Bikes are allowed, and the surface is natural. The Cougar Creek Trail lies just 0.1 mile away, and Bogus Creek Campground and the North Umpqua Trail: Mott are both within a mile. The North Umpqua River, about 2.6 miles off, offers river fishing.
