Big Meadows Tie Trail #3434 is a 3.7-mile out-and-back hike in Oregon's Mount Jefferson Wilderness, within the Detroit Ranger District of the Willamette National Forest. The trail climbs from about 3,860 feet to roughly 4,470 feet, with a total elevation gain of 1,267 feet over the round trip. The steepest stretch comes at about 0.68 miles in, where the grade reaches 14 percent. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Santiam Junction, which sits about 720 feet lower than the trail's high point, show July and August highs around 76°F with lows near 42°F. Winter is cold, with January highs around 38°F and lows near 24°F. The hike takes about two hours. The trail lies within designated wilderness, and the Forest Service manages the surrounding land. For more time in the area, Duffy Lake is half a mile away and Duffy Prairie is about a mile off. Big Pool Campground is roughly 3 miles away, and the North Santiam River offers paddling about 3.4 miles from the trail.
