Spool Cart Campground is a Forest Service campground in the La Grande Ranger District of the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest in northeastern Oregon. It is a simple base for an overnight stay in the forest, with vault toilets as the only listed amenity. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Meacham show July and August highs around 79°F with only about four wet days a month, while winter months bring highs in the mid-30s and rain on roughly half the days. The surrounding area offers more to explore. Fly Creek and Beaver Creek are canoeing spots within about 7 miles, and the Grande Ronde River is a little farther out. Bird Track Springs Campground, about 8 miles away, is another option for an overnight stay.
