East Lake is a Forest Service campground in the Bend/Fort Rock Ranger District of Oregon's Deschutes National Forest. It sits within the ranger district's recreation sites, and the Forest Service manages the land. The site has flush toilets, and a fee is charged for stays. That makes it a straightforward base for an overnight in the district, with a basic amenity to cover the essentials. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Odell Lake show July and August highs around 73 to 74°F with only about three wet days a month, while winter brings highs in the mid-30s and regular snow days from December through February. That station sits about 1,500 feet lower than the campground, so temperatures at East Lake run cooler. Several other spots are close by. Cinder Hill campground is about a mile away, and the Lost Lake Trail #3958.2 and Parallel hikes are each roughly 1.3 miles off. Little Crater campground is about 1.7 miles away.
