Deep Creek is a Forest Service campground in the Paulina Ranger District of Ochoco National Forest in central Oregon, about 14 miles from the town of Paulina. It sits among large ponderosa pine trees and across the Crooked River from Western larch trees, in a setting the Forest Service describes as serene. The drive in is long but easy, with paved roads from the west and most of the way from the east. The campground has vault toilets, and there are no official hiking trails in the immediate area. Visitors can explore the surrounding scenery by hiking nearby spur roads. Fishing in the river can be good, depending on the time of year. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from the Paulina weather station, about 14 miles away, put May highs near 69°F and September highs near 79°F. July and August average around 87 to 89°F, and winter highs sit in the low 40s. The place fills with visitors during the most comfortable season. If the weather is good, it's worth checking the calendar.
