Crawfish Lake Shelter is a Forest Service campground in the Cottage Grove Ranger District of Oregon's Umpqua National Forest, about 2 miles from the town of Cottage Grove. The site sits along a short, fairly flat trail that leads to Crawfish Lake, a small, tranquil body of water under three acres in size. The trail continues around the lake, and the section to the lake and the shelter is accessible with moderate difficulty. However, the water's edge and the shoreline are not accessible. The shelter is a three-sided structure for primitive camping, and the site also offers picnicking, photography and limited fishing. The surrounding area is an excellent habitat for raptors and salamanders. The easy ten-minute hike to the lake replaces the original steep, rocky trail that descended from Adams Mountain Road above. No fees are required to use the site. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July and August highs around 79°F with only about four wet days a month, while winter brings highs in the upper 30s and frequent snow days. Nearby options include the Crawfish Lake hike, about 0.2 miles away, and the Marten Flume and Adams Mountain Way hikes, both about 2 miles off. Lund Park Forest Camp is about 2.1 miles away.
