Billy Fields Campground is a Forest Service site in the Blue Mountain Ranger District of Malheur National Forest in Oregon. It sits about 17 miles from the town of John Day and serves as a base for hunting, fishing and wild horse watching. The campground has picnic tables and metal fire rings, and vault toilets are the only restrooms. No fees are required to use the site, which makes it an easy stop for an overnight stay or a day of outdoor activity. The closest trail is Fields Peak Trail #212, about 2.4 miles away, and Cedar Grove Trail #203A and McClellan Mountain Trail #216 are both within about 2.3 miles. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from the nearby John Day weather station show July and August highs around 86°F with only three or four wet days a month, while winter highs stay near 40°F.
