About Ohio River Scenic Byway

The Ohio River Scenic Byway is a 273.3-mile National Scenic Byway in Ohio, tracing the river through a long chain of communities. Its northern reach passes East Liverpool, Wellsville and Toronto, and the route continues south past Martins Ferry, Bellaire, Marietta, Belpre, Pomeroy and Gallipolis before ending near Proctorville and Chesapeake, across the water from Huntington. Towns line the drive the whole way, so there is no shortage of places to stop, refuel or break the trip into shorter segments. For the most comfortable driving weather, aim for September or October, when typical averages from a nearby weather station at Huntington run highs of about 81°F and 70°F, with fewer wet days than the rest of the year. Summer is warmer, with highs averaging around 87°F in July and August. Outdoor stops sit right along the route. Leith Run Campground and the Leith Run Gazebo Trail are within about a tenth of a mile, as are the Ohio View Trail and Kiedaisch Point for climbing. Sandcastle Campground is under a mile away.
