The Flackamite/Pirate wall is a climbing area in the Linville Gorge Wilderness, part of the Grandfather Ranger District of the National Forests in North Carolina. The Forest Service manages the land, and the area sits within designated wilderness, which sets it apart from other climbing spots in the state. The climbing here is a mix of trad and sport routes, with a few boulders. Of the 16 routes listed, the easiest is Somalian Pirate at 5.7, and the hardest is Where the Sun Don't Shine at 5.11c. The median grade is 5.10. The wall's name points to its two main features, Flackamite and Pirate, and the routes are spread across them. For timing, late spring and early fall are the most comfortable. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Spruce Pine run from highs around 71°F in May to 74°F in September, and the station sits roughly 800 feet lower than the wall, so temperatures on the cliff run cooler. Sitting Bear Spire is just 0.1 mile away, and Devils Hole and Raspberry Ridge are both within a mile. Linville Falls Campground is about 3.6 miles off.
