Smokemont Campground is a National Park Service campground inside Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina, about 5 miles from the town of Cherokee. The park manages the land, and the site has no fee for camping. For comfortable weather, aim for late spring or early fall. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Cherokee show May highs around 75°F and September highs around 78°F, with July the warmest month at about 83°F. Winters are cold, with January highs near 46°F. Several trails start close by. The Smokemont Nature Trail is about 0.4 miles away and the Smokemont Loop Trail about 0.6 miles. Tow String Horse Camp is roughly 2 miles off, and Balsam Mountain Campground is about 8 miles away.
