It sits about 2.6 miles from Nags Head itself. The access has parking, and there is no fee to use it. For a beach visit, summer brings the warmest weather. Typical July highs reach about 86°F with lows near 73°F at the nearby Manteo airport weather station. September stays mild with highs around 79°F, and it has fewer wet days than midsummer.
