Carlton Avenue Ocean Access is a public beach access point in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, managed by the Town of Kill Devil Hills. It sits about a mile from the center of town and gives walk-up entry to the oceanfront. The access has parking, and there is no fee to use it. That makes it a simple stop for a beach visit without any permits or passes to sort out. For comfortable weather, late spring and early fall work well. Typical averages from the nearby Manteo airport station show May highs around 75°F and September highs near 79°F, with July running hotter at about 86°F.
