Schunnemunk State Park

New York

About

Schunnemunk State Park is a 4,458-acre state park in New York, about 1.9 miles from the town of Mountain Lodge Park. It is managed by the state park agency and holds six trails within its boundaries, making it a base for day hikes on a network of routes rather than a single path. The most comfortable stretch for hiking runs from late spring into early fall. Typical averages from the nearby West Point, NY weather station put May highs around 72°F and September highs around 76°F, with that station sitting at 320 feet, so temperatures on higher ground in the park run cooler. Several trails start close by. Sweet Clover Trail, Ridge to Ridge Trail and Dark Hollow Trail are each about 0.7 miles away, and Barton Swamp Trail is about a mile out. Paddlers can head to Moodna Creek, roughly 2.1 miles away.
