Mumbly Peg is a short, easy out-and-back hike on Town of Harrietstown land in New York, about half a mile from the town of Harrietstown. The route is roughly a mile long, with a total elevation gain of about 334 feet, and it reaches a high point of about 2,076 feet. The climb is steepest near the third of the way, with a grade of about 17 percent, but the whole trip takes about half an hour. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical July averages from the nearby Ray Brook weather station run to a high of about 74°F and a low of about 53°F, and the station sits roughly 450 feet below the trail, so temperatures on the hike run a little cooler. Several other routes start within a tenth of a mile, including Iron Bill, West Side Snowshoe Trail and Sorry. Baker Mountain, a climbing area, is about 2.6 miles away, and Lower Saranac Lake is about 3.1 miles away.
