The Champlain Valley Trail from Westport to Keeseville is a 30-mile point-to-point hike in New York, starting just 0.6 miles from the town of Westport. The route rises from a low of about 150 feet to a high of 990 feet, with a total elevation gain of 1,737 feet and a loss of 1,541 feet over the course of the trip. It is a hard hike, and the estimated time is about 11 hours. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Vergennes, Vermont, show July highs around 83°F with lows near 61°F, while September cools to highs around 73°F. That station sits about 800 feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures on the higher ground run cooler.
