Balancing Rock Trail is a short, easy hike of about 0.34 miles in Arthur W. Butler Memorial Sanctuary in New York, managed by a non-governmental organization. The trail is a point-to-point route with a front-loaded climb, rising from about 558 feet to 584 feet before a small drop to 485 feet. The steepest stretch comes early, at about 9% grade, and the total elevation gain is 73 feet one way. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show May highs around 70°F and September highs around 74°F, with July the warmest month at about 83°F. Several other trails start close by. Connector Trail is about 0.2 miles away, Long Trail about 0.5 miles, and The Fern Trail and Butler Trail each about 0.6 miles. Westmoreland Sanctuary, a climbing area, is about 1.2 miles off.
