Trail Side Area 1 is a bouldering area on Forest Service land in the Sandia Ranger District of Cibola National Forest in New Mexico, about 5 miles from Albuquerque. It sits among a cluster of hiking trails and other climbing areas, so it works well as a stop on a day that mixes rock and walking. The area's six bouldering problems are all rated between V0 and V5, with the hardest being Southwest Arete and Vicious Critic at V5. The boulders are the focus here, and the routes are short, so a visit can be built around a few problems without needing to commit to a longer approach. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station run from highs around 68°F with lows near 40°F in April and October to highs near 78°F with lows around 49°F in May. Summer brings highs in the upper 80s and more frequent wet days. Three Gun Spring Arroyo Trail and Hawk Watch both start about a tenth of a mile away, and Screaming Jihad and Crystal Ship and Glass House are climbing areas roughly 0.3 to 0.4 miles off.
