The Shack is a climbing area on Bureau of Land Management land in the Taos Field Office of New Mexico, about 13 miles from Santa Fe. It sits among a cluster of other climbing spots, with Main Wall and The Dog House each about 0.1 mile away and Styx about half a mile off. The area has one sport route, Baileys con Ridge, which is graded 5.9 on the YDS scale. It is the only route listed here, so plan on a short outing if you're looking for a single climb. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Santa Fe show May highs around 76°F and October highs around 68°F, while July and August average highs near 88°F with about 10 wet days a month. For a change from the rock, the El Camino Real Historic Route Trail is about 0.8 mile away, and Soda Springs is about 1.6 miles off.
