Bat Cave is a climbing area on Bureau of Land Management land in the Las Cruces District Office in southern New Mexico, about 20 miles from the town of Las Cruces. It sits among a cluster of other climbing areas, with New Beginnings Wall, Villain Wall and Trojan Wall (Right of Bat Cave) all within about a tenth of a mile. The area is a sport climbing destination, with 31 routes spread across a range of grades from 5.9 up to 5.14d. The median grade is 5.12d, and the hardest route is Helsinki at 5.14d. Some of the named routes include Podcast (5.9), Jornada Del Muerto (5.12c) and The Technician (5.13b). Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Hillsboro, which sits about 900 feet lower than the cave, show April and October highs around 75°F with lows in the low 40s, while July and August highs reach about 92°F and bring the most wet days of the year.
