Utopian Vista Upper Tier is a climbing area on Bureau of Land Management land in the Taos Field Office of New Mexico, about 8 miles from the town of Taos. It sits among a cluster of named climbing walls, with John Nichol's Wall, Hopper's Hangover Wall and El Grito Del Norte Wall all about 0.1 mile away, and Panorama Wall about 0.2 mile off. The area has 35 routes, with sport and trad styles each making up about a third of the total. The YDS grades run from 5.7 up to 5.12c, with the median at 5.11a. Among the named routes are Brown Berets, a 5.7 trad climb, and Black Mamba, a 5.12c sport route. For timing, late spring and early fall are the most comfortable. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Taos show May highs around 73°F and September highs around 78°F, while July and August bring highs in the mid-80s and the most wet days of the year.
