South Ponderosa Leg is a short, easy hike in the Sandia Ranger District of Cibola National Forest in New Mexico, on city-managed land. The route is just 0.03 miles long, and it gains no elevation, so it's a quick stop rather than a climb. The most comfortable months for a visit are typically late spring and early fall. Typical averages from the Sandia Park weather station, about 15 miles away, show May highs around 73°F and September highs around 77°F, with lows in the low to mid 40s. Several other trails sit within a short distance. Alligator Alley and the Ponderosa Loop Trail are each about 0.6 miles away, and Cairnival is about 0.7 miles off.
