Rocky Campground Road is an easy out-and-back hike of about 2.6 miles in the Gila Wilderness, part of the Wilderness Ranger District of Gila National Forest in New Mexico. The Forest Service manages the land, and the route runs from a low point of about 7,335 feet to a high of about 7,647 feet, with a one-way climb of about 350 feet. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Ft Bayard show October highs around 74°F with lows near 47°F, and May highs around 80°F. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the route run cooler. The Continental Divide Trail passes just 0.1 mile away, and the Caves Trail is about 0.7 mile off. Brannon Park Trail #95 is about 1.1 miles away. For an overnight stay, Black Canyon Campground - Lower is about 5.4 miles away.
