Perimeter Traverse is a short, easy out-and-back hike in the Espanola Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest in northern New Mexico, managed by the Forest Service. The route is about 0.7 miles long, with a one-way elevation gain of 169 feet, and it links a low point of 7,902 feet to a high of 8,082 feet. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from the nearby Los Alamos weather station, which sits about 650 feet lower, show May highs around 70°F and October highs around 63°F, while July and August bring the most wet days, about 13 to 14 a month. The trail sits among several other outings. American Springs (North) is about 0.1 mile away, Rim Run is about 0.2 mile away, and the Cañon de Valle Boulders climbing area is about 0.2 mile away. The Valle hike is about 0.5 mile away.
