Lama Canyon is a 2-mile out-and-back hike in the Columbine-Hondo Wilderness, part of the Questa Ranger District of Carson National Forest in northern New Mexico. The trail rises from about 10,893 feet to about 11,785 feet, a climb of 854 feet, and is rated moderate. The Forest Service manages the land, and the route is natural-surfaced and open year-round. The trail is within designated wilderness, and horses are allowed. That makes it a practical choice for riders as well as hikers. The climb is steady, and the route is short enough to fit into a day of exploring the surrounding area. San Cristobal lies about 0.7 miles away and Lobo Peak about 1.1 miles, so the canyon pairs easily with either of those hikes. For an overnight stay, Goat Hill and Columbine campgrounds are each about 3.5 miles off.
