Cavate Pueblo Loop Trail Stop 14 is a stop along the Pueblo Loop Trail in Bandelier National Monument, managed by the National Park Service in New Mexico. It sits within the monument's network of trail stops, and the surrounding area is marked by several other stops that sit just 0.1 mile away, including Frijoles Canyon Pueblo Loop Trail Stop 13, Cave Kiva Pueblo Loop Trail Stop 15 and Frey Trail Pueblo Loop Trail Stop 16. This stop comes with a note on how to treat the cavates. The natural stone floors of the cavates have been protected by concrete, which prevents damage from foot traffic. The park service asks visitors to stay on the designated trail and to climb into cavates only when a ladder is provided, since the rock is very sensitive to the marks we leave behind. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Cochiti Dam run to highs around 71°F in April and 74°F in October, while July and August average highs in the low 90s and bring the most wet days of the year. A fee is charged for a visit, and the stop works well as part of a longer walk through the trail's sequence of stops.
