Camino Real is a 5-mile out-and-back hike in the Camino Real Ranger District of Carson National Forest in New Mexico. The trail rises from 7,861 feet to 8,846 feet, a gain of 972 feet, and is rated moderate. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is natural-surfaced. Bikes and horses are both allowed. It is not an accessible trail. Summer and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Angel Fire run from highs around 77°F in July to about 69°F in September. Winter is cold and snowy, with January highs near 38°F and lows around 9°F. The trail is open from March 15 to November 15. Hidden Loop and Meadow Loop are both within 3 miles. Camino Real RD, a lake fishing spot, and the Comales campground are each about 5 miles away.
