80 Mountain is an easy hike of about 1.2 miles in the Silver City Ranger District of Gila National Forest in southwestern New Mexico, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is an out-and-back with a total elevation gain of about 518 feet, climbing from roughly 6,921 feet to about 7,465 feet. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from the nearby Ft Bayard weather station, which sits about 1,366 feet lower, show October highs around 74°F with lows near 47°F, and April highs around 73°F. Summer is hot and wetter, with July and August highs in the upper 80s and about 13 wet days a month. The trail is on natural surface, and both bikes and horses are allowed. Several other short loops lie within a mile, including Picnic Loop, Dragon Loop Trail #718 and Mountain Loop Trail.
